Newly diagnosed patients and those requiring bone marrow transplant require extensive testing to determine their ability to tolerate the planned treatment. The diagnostic tests are designed to evaluate the health of the patient's major organs, namely the heart, lungs, liver and kidneys. These are usually simple tests and are not particularly invasive.
Patients whose treatment involves chemotherapy or a transplant will require other procedures such as Hickman® line insertion, bone marrow examination and transfusions.
